Hunter Hayes wants to set a new world record, and help kids in the process.

The country star will attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the most concerts played in different cities in a 24-hour period. The Flaming Lips currently hold the record with eight -- Hunter is planning on playing ten.

He'll officially kick off "Hunter Hayes' 24 Hour Road Race to End Child Hunger" in New York City on Friday, May 9th, at 8:00 a.m. Eastern with a performance on ABC's "Good Morning America."  Before noon he'll also play shows in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts.  At 1:45 p.m. he's scheduled to be in Providence, Rhode Island.  He'll then visit New London, New Haven, and Stamford, Connecticut; and take the stage in South Orange, New Jersey at 11:30 p.m.

Hunter will unplug for a 2:00 a.m. show at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey, and finish the run with a 5:00 a.m. performance in Philadelphia.  And he'll raise more money for the cause by auctioning off the guitars he plays at each show.

The record attempt also caps off Hayes' release week for his new album.  The singer's sophomore studio effort, Storyline, will arrive in stores on May 6th.  The album features Hunter's current single, "Invisible."
